Sophie in Thistle + Hydrangea
Romantic bridal separates created with bespoke touches
On Sophie’s first visit to the studio, she tried on lots of gowns and separates combinations which all looked stunning on her, but it was the pairing of our ivory silk slip dress Thistle and the Hydrangea lace top that she settled on during her second trip up. We made a couple of bespoke changes for Sophie – including raising the back of the dress slightly, so she had a wider selection of underwear options. We also cropped Hydrangea’s hem to sit just above her waist, and swapped the original flutter sleeves for smaller caps, which worked beautifully.
Outdoor Lake District ceremony and laid-back family-focused celebrations
Sophie and Matthew were married at the stunning Askham Hall in the Lake District. The weather was kind and they were able to exchange their vows outside amongst the glorious surrounding gardens, with their two young sons and beloved dog by their side. Celebrations continued indoors with the wedding breakfast served at Bank Barn, then speeches were followed by lawn games outside, before a ceilidh got everyone dancing.

“I genuinely wasn’t sure I would ever find a wedding dress that felt right for me. Nothing had clicked, and I hadn’t enjoyed the traditional wedding shop experience at all. Driving two hours to Kate’s studio in Sheffield turned out to be one of the best decisions I made during the whole wedding process.
From start to finish, the experience was wonderful. Kate is warm, funny, and easy to chat to, and she immediately made me feel welcome and at ease. She took real time to understand what I was looking for, as well as what I didn’t like. She is a true artist, and listening to her explain the skill, care, and craftsmanship that goes into making a wedding dress was fascinating. She works with the most beautiful silks and laces, and her designs are absolutely stunning.
What I loved most was the ability to create something completely bespoke. I could choose the sleeves from one dress, the skirt from another, and the colour from a third. The final result was a dress that was truly unique, perfectly “me,” and made me feel comfortable and beautiful on the day.
